Match Spion Kop |
The
match will be at John Townroe's Westfield Farm at Spion Kop. It will
be for vintage tractors and ploughs. Tractors will be earlier than 1975
and several will be pre-war. Approximately 70 entries are expected.
There will be a small number of horses ploughing. One class will be
exclusively grey Ferguson Tractors. Harry Ferguson invented the three
point linkage which connects the plough to the tractor and is universally
used today even on the giant machines we see in the fields. Competitive ploughing is controlled by the Society of Ploughmen who have devised a set of rules. Each competitor is given about 1/7th acre to plough in 3 hours. He will be assesed by judges who will give points for the opening of the plot, the excellence of the main ploughing and finally the way it is finished. The objective is to turn every square foot of land, bury all traces of the previous crop and leave a surface ready for sowing with a new crop. The Nottinghamshire sandland at Westfield Farm is ideal for ploughing at this time of year. it will never be too wet to plough. This match is a preparation for a European Vintage match which will be held on the same site in September. More of that later! Spectators will be very welcome. Please talk to the people involved to understand what they are doing. Ploughing starts at 10.00am but something of interest will be going on for several hours. Entry will be well signposted from the A60 at Spion Kop. Come and join us. |

See What MDC Spend |
Mansfield District Council started publishing details of all it’s spending of over £500 with external suppliers from 31st January. The move is in line with the government requirement for all Councils to publish their spending data to encourage greater transparency and accountability with residents and to promote greater efficiency. The first document published lists every transaction of over £500 made between 1 April and 31 December 2010. From now on, monthly reports will be uploaded to the website shortly after the end of each month. www.mansfield.gov.uk/spending |
