The 1208 Squadron
Civilian Committee would like to thank the people of Warsop, and the surrounding
areas, for their support at the Christmas Late Night Opening Evening Event
on Friday 7th December 2007.
The Cadets were well represented at the event, and as always a credit to their
families and the Squadron. They were complimented by many individuals on the
evening and we need to thank Radio Mansfield 103.2 for championing the Cadets
at the event. We were in pole position in front of the Radio Mansfield set
up, whose staff maintained an up-tempo party atmosphere throughout the evening.
They gave our Cadets well deserved publicity and were very complimentary about
them on the evening. As for the stilt walkers, they walked tall too!
Thanks to the ladies at Age Concern for their compliments to the boys on the
night too. The Civilian Committee are grateful to all the staff of 1208 Squadron
who made the evening a success, and to the parents and friends of the Squadron
who contributed to the fantastic Christmas Hamper which was in our raffle
- thanks to Warrant Officer John Kirkland who helped us set up the stand and
managed Health and Safety risk assessments for the sale of food. Our thanks
to Rachel Needham, one of our indefatigueable Staff Officers, for supporting
the Cadets on the night, and helping serve the public. We must not forget
to extend thanks to Christine Needham who baked the pies and prepared the
mushy peas for the hot food sale. The pastry was to die for. As for mushy
peas and mint sauce, who needs Caviar? We couldn't help notice how many came
back for second helpings. We also sold out of Hot Dogs. The mulled wine was
a cup of hot cheer on such a cold evening. All of our customers showed great
appreciation for our efforts, and it was a real pleasure to socialise with
the people of Warsop.
The youngsters of Warsop had great fun, showed respect for themselves, and
each other; a real asset to the town. A credit to their parents, and their
schools. To those who like to knock the younger generation, well, all we can
say is " You should have been there, it was special " We would also
like to extend a challenge to those boys and girls, aged between 13 and 18
yrs. to look on this website in the leisure / uniformed organisations / Air
Training Corps section, and consider joining us. There really is so much to
gain, and nothing to lose.
The Cadets at 1208 Squadron are a force to be reckoned with - they are a real
asset to Warsop, and are prepared to give of their time freely to support
the community, and raise funds that will build the future success of 1208
Squadron. The event proved just what can be achieved when communities come
together - such a rewarding evening for all those who supported it!
Thank you all.
